Mike is from the UK and when he would read this story, he voiced these characters like Cockney gangsters. Though these characters only make a brief appearance in the book, they are some of my favorite.
Gangster Pigs, early brainstorms
This later version of the main gangster pig was coming along well, but looked a little more like a professor (left) than a gangster. So the flat-cap was added, hiding the ears and partially obscuring the eyes, adding a little mystery and unease...while not making it scary as it is still a children's book.

The Grand Pigsty
The Grand Pigsty is a central location to the story. It is designed to be a metropolis in the middle of the farmland (not unlike Las Vegas in the desert) while still looking like it was built by pigs and other animals
The Problem
Create an anthropomorphic pigsty
It needed to set the stage of the fantasy world that the characters lived in, while not straying too far from a readers expectations of pigs and sheep and a pigsty.
Grand Pigsty, final version, daytime
Brainstorm and early visualization of the Grand Pigsty started in 3D to quickly and easily experiment.
One of the challenges was to create a "big city" feel...but without using big city buildings. The solution was to use cottage and country style buildings on stilts and risers to mimic the look of skyscrapers while keeping a rural feel.

My Faith Story
Design Brief
"A creative with roads and maps and some changes in topography. I'd like the colors to be bright but something that looks like early fall think last week, September early October."
The concept for this isn't a difficult - road/map/travel/journey/faith. The challenge for this wasn't going to be in developing a concept (the client had one in mind already), the challenge was going to be in execution.
This project was built as a 3D Model with depth-of-field and final color grading completed in Photoshop
Challenge #1
Balancing legibility within a continuously flowing road.
The idea was to spell out the title with a road winding through the landscape, but the more it looked like a continuously flowing road, the less it looked like text and vice versa. Earlier versions with the full title interpreted as the road were simplified to just being the word "faith", with other text added as a road sign and billboard.

"Faith" was simplified once more in the vertical lines of the "t" and "h" trading some of the illusion of the flowing road for readability. It didn't matter how cool of an idea it was if you couldn't read it.
